My Workout-Body Revolution-Week 2-Workout 2

Yesterday was supposed to be workout 2, but I had to reschedule :>  I was super tired after only getting 3 hours of sleep and that might be generous.  I took melatonin and off to sleep I went.  I woke up refreshed this morning so today was a better day.

I will push up workout 2 to Saturday to keep on schedule for next week.  Tomorrow I will really try to get in cardio in addition to workout 1.

Off to find dinner.

My Workout-Body Revolution-Week 2-Workout 1

I just started this blog so there's no writings for week 1.

There are six workouts per week with one day of rest.  Today was workout 1 which consists of front of the body exercises.  Pushups, chest fly, shoulder raises, squats and quad raises and ab work were the focus of this workout.  Dispersed after each set is a one-minute cardio move.  This workout is considered the lightest of the bunch and is meant to get you used to moving and the format of the program.  My heart rate monitor says I burned 470 calories for this 30 minute workout.  I did sub a couple of the cardio moves for jogging in place.

Overall I do like the format of this program.  Yes, Jillian still yells but she is a bit more supportive in this workout.  Tomorrow is workout 2 and focuses on the back of the body.

Recipe Experiement-Packaged Sausage Lentil Soup

In another post I wrote about making Rachel Ray's Sausage, Kale and Lentil Soup.  I found this soup ingredient package at Whole Foods so I thought I would try it.  It contains the lentils, spice packet and you add the meat of choice.

At the butcher I bought a pound of loose turkey sausage and a pound of ground turkey burger meat.  I mixed them together and left it in the fridge.  When you do this the unseasoned meat takes on the flavors of the sausage eliminating the need to season the ground turkey.  I cooked the meat, drained it and emptied the pan.  I then cooked a diced large onion and added the meat back into the pan.  I opened a can of tomatoes (smaller than what package called for), a 28oz carton of chicken broth and a smaller container of more flavorful broth.  Like Rachel Ray's recipe I plan to put chopped Kale when the soup is done to give a nutritional boost.

This recipe took all of less than twenty minutes from putting the raw meat in the pan to the simmer that's concurring now.  This recipe boasts 8-10 servings and some will go in the freezer for quick meals.  Cooking for more than one meal is key when embarking on a health/fitness regimen because spending a lot of time in the kitchen will be frustrating for people new to the kitchen.

Now, if the end product is as good as my Rachel Ray recipe I will be a happy girl!

My Workout-Body Revolution by Jillian Michaels

So I've been doing Jillian Michaels new program called Body Revolution.  It is a 90 day fitness program.  I started about 3 weeks ago and took too long a break so as of last week I've restarted the program.

It's an intense program with a 6-day workout program.  Jillian has made the workout short, but no less affective.  When you embark on a fitness quest such as this if your diet is not in check, and if your goal is fat loss, it is pretty much a waste of time.  I still struggle with the little voice in my head that wants the chocolate or other sugary snacks and salty chips.  I find support groups to be a huge help because someone else is interested in my goal or accomplishment.

I will also write about recipes that I've tried because this goes along with getting healthy.  I can not eat a microwave tv dinner and feel satisfied.  Lean cuisine, hot pockets, these sorts of things have a lot of fillers and ingredients that I try not to put in my body.  Another quest that I have is to not fill my body with additives and preservatives...or as little as possible.  I also don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners such as dextrose, xylitol or splenda.  Even though splenda is supposedly natural it has an aftertaste to me.  I've recently introduced coconut sugar as a baked sugar alternative.  It's not meant for tea to me because it has a woody undertone.  I am a foodie.  I like the smell of a home cooked meal as well as a healthy quantity.  I started a blog and I will re-post some of my stories regarding recipes on here.

I must admit that I was a slug this past weekend.  I plan to be more diligent with posting my fitness journal.
